I am going to go out on a limb here and say that it finally feels like summer has arrived in Vancouver. The sun doesn’t set till after 9, there is a constant smell of barbecues, and many evenings spent at the ball park. I love everything about summer. Well, that is not entirely true there are a few things I could live without; waking up drenched because it is so hot in our apartment, sunburns and mosquito bites.
But with that being said, the pro’s far outweigh the cons. Since Andrew and I spend most of our free time on evenings and weekends playing ball, I really want to make an effort to try some new things. Or just make a consistent effort to spend time together, doing something other than playing softball and drinking beer (not that there is anything wrong with that). And with Summer upon us the last thing I want to do it sit inside, I have been brainstorming a few ideas for summer date nights and I thought you might enjoy them too. Whether it’s a first date or you’ve been together for seven years and still don’t have a ring…ahem, there’s a little something for everyone.
Go to a Festival. Music festivals are always a great option but let’s be honest, they can be expensive and hard to get to.
So if that’s not in the cards for you check your local websites to see what might be happening in your area, from food to holiday celebrations, there is definitely something close to home you can enjoy. For my fellow Vancouverites I tend to reference Vancouver is Awesome and Inside Vancouver for local happenings.
Go to the drive in. Sometimes it’s kind of nice to go back in time and enjoy movies from inside your car.
Not to mention the romance factor goes way up when you don’t have the person behind you putting their feet on your seat and rustling the crap out of their popcorn bag.
Visit a Farmers Market. This is hands down my favorite thing to do during the summer months.
I love fresh fruit and vegetables, and there are usually a number of different food vendors on site where you can enjoy a fresh, delicious lunch in the sunshine. I highly recommend the Burnaby and Langley Farmers Markets. Eat Drink and Be Local is a great reference point to find a market in your area.
What ‘s your favorite summer date?
